Introduction
Every year Mercer, one of the world's
largest Human Resources firms, releases its Quality
of Living Index, which looks at which cities provide the best quality of life.
Vienna (Austria), Zurich (Switzerland) and Auckland (New Zealand) ranked the
top three cities in 2018.
Mercer takes into account the following
criteria to create their list:
·
Political, social, economic environment
·
Socio-cultural environment (media
availability and censorship, limitations on personal freedom)
·
Medical and health considerations (medical
services, infectious diseases, waste disposal, air pollution)
·
Schools and education
·
Public services and transportation
(electricity, water, public transportation, traffic congestion)
·
Recreation (restaurants, theatres, cinemas,
sports and leisure)
·
Consumer goods /Housing
·
Natural environment (climate, record of
natural disasters)
2.
Task
Requirements
·
With a classmate, prepare a
4-minute presentation on one city of your choice.
·
You can not
read your work, but you can use an outline with the main ideas or do the
presentation without any prompt or help.
·
You must use some visual
support to your presentation: a PowerPoint, Prezi, etc. Please, bring your
presentation in a flash drive.
·
Include 3 different parts:
1.
General introduction to the
city: location, population, climate, landmarks, why it is famous or important.
2.
Choose two of the
criteria above that Mercer uses to rank cities and use them to do some research
on the city that you have chosen.
3.
Give your opinion on the
city: would you like to live there? why? why not? What things are the most
important for you in the place where you want to live?
